Notable music on MySpace

The Kooks — the next Arctic Monkeys (or at least that is the obvious and fervent hope of their record company). They have the great manic energy of young people aspiring to rockstardom.

La Mer Enfortuna — side project of “noir” rockers Elysian Fields focused on Sephardi music. The Spanish record label Pneuma has issued a lot of interesting Sephardi and Spanish medieval music (available at the Rashid Music Store on Court Street) while the viol and gamba specialist Jordi Savall has colloborated with Montserrat Figueras on the Hesperion XXI’s hauntingly beautiful Diaspora Sefardi.

Addendum: It’s remiss not to mention Osvaldo Gojilov’s Ayre in the category of Sephardi music, although this album is a lot more ambitious. Also worth a listen is “The Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind”, heavily influenced by klezmer but based on the work of the first known Kabbalist.

  1. Hey there,

Here is a great site to listen, read, and learn all about Jewish Music.
Full of stuff, and more will be added. Help let people know about it. All the best!
