Follow the money

The New York Times has published the results of an audit that concludes the State Department agency in charge of $1.4 billion in reconstruction money in Iraq used an accounting shell game to hide ballooning cost overruns on its projects there and knowingly withheld information on schedule delays from Congress. I believe this is known as fraud in the corporate world, but since it’s only taxpayer and not shareholder money, it’s unreasonable to expect much in the way of repercussions.
