Making the world a better place

Caleb expresses wonderment

Becoming a parent has the very sobering effect of asking yourself what is that you do to contribute to making the world a better place for your child. It’s the natural outgrowth of suddenly realizing that you now have responsibilities that extend beyond your needs and, on a good day, the needs of your spouse. As much as this nagging sense of unease can result in a not very encouraging review of what you’ve managed to achieve so far, a child rejuvenates a sense of possibility and trust in the basic decency of humanity. As much as we like to think our moment has passed us by, a child’s enthusiasm, curiosity and love teach us that there’s always room for optimism.
