Jo’burg

I've never met Stuart O'Sullivan, but I know where he comes from. And when I see this image that captures the underlying dread, ingrained paranoia and distorted normality, I'm reminded why it was always so difficult to call it home. Ivan Vladislavic's essay in Granta is also a good portrait of the unfortunate attachment one develops to a piece of crap mining town.
